Description: Madyamaka and Pramāṇavāda are two of the most influential schools of Indian Buddhist Philosophy. Madyamaka is famous for the thesis of emptiness. Pramāṇavāda is influential for their formulation of logical reasoning. It has rarely been show, however, that their metaphysical and logical accounts imply certain semantics and meta-ethics. This series of lectures will introduce and critically examine the semantic and meta-ethical principles implied by their metaphysics and logic. It will be shown that they have problematic consequences and that their overall philosophical positions are not without difficulty.
